Today is International Women’s Day, a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
Throughout the history of SJMT, hundreds of women have and continue to contribute to the amazing work of our charities and have made the Trust what it is today. Our workforce is largely comprised of women with 46% of our Trustees, 75% of our senior management team and 100% of our management team being women.
Whilst we know a lot about our founder, we don’t talk enough about his beloved wife Annie Mason (1792-1870). Annie or ‘Tet’ as Josiah affectionately called her was very influential in Josiah’s early business success and a great support during times of crisis. It was Annie that encouraged Josiah to move to Erdington, the place where they would spend the rest of their lives and where Josiah founded our Trust. Annie was very supportive of the work of the Trust and we remember her and all the great women that have influenced our work today.
