The Objectives of the Charity
Our Relief in Need and Educational Charity aims to help young people in the local area by providing grants to support their education and training.
As part of its objectives, this charity currently offers a number of bursaries to students at The University of Birmingham through their Access to Birmingham Scholarships Programme. Since 2013, we have donated £45,900 which has supported 13 individuals from our region to undertake degree courses in subjects such as Social Policy and Social Work. Many of these students may not have been able to access higher education without these scholarships.
In addition, through Solihull Council, we support grants for individual tuition for ‘looked after’ young people to enable them to go on to access higher level qualifications and training.
For many years, the Relief in Need Charity has also funded apprentices in different areas of the charity. Apprenticeships are an excellent way of getting a head start in a particular field of work and enable people to start working and earning a decent wage while they learn key skills and gain the qualifications that employers need.
The Trust also employs its own team of apprentices in several areas of the organisation such as property maintenance, catering, painting and decorating, care and customer services.
